The Flip-Flop On A Stick

A series of five short video studies of the imagined potential uses for the Flip-Flop On a Stick, a seemingly absurdist object that I found in a marketplace in Quiapo, Manila. I did not make the Flip-Flop On A Stick. It came into the world on its own.
It’s basically a child-size flip-flop, attached to a rattan stick. Presumably used for swatting unfortunate insects, this absurdist object fascinates me not merely because it exists, but because it provokes deep curiosity about the logic and reasoning behind its initial conception. Its untapped potential compelled me to investigate.
These videos were made for M.U.V.E., a performance event organized by Gigi Otalvaro-Hormillosa and Heather Cox Carducci.
