The Very Very Important Painting Project

In this project, you will be expected to demonstrate mastery of many of the basic skills you have been working on in mini-projects this semester, such as basic perspective drawing (2 point perspective, eye level, etc, basic 3-dimensional geometric form, shadows, values, and your introduction to painting (value, colors, mixing and blending).

Beyond these skills, you will be expected to demonstrate the ability to combine these with new skills, such as creating a complex pictorial composition, considering and communicating idea and theme, writing and speaking about your work.

Your painting does not by any means have to end up traditionally or conventionally realistic. I do expect to see specific skills indicated, but there are an infinite number of ways you can do this. The bottom line is: be aware that you are to turn in a VVIP that is absolutely complete, well-executed, well-considered and professional.

I don't think I can clarify enough that while I do expect you to demonstrate specific artistic skills on this project, I want you to use your imagination and intellect to make your paintings unique, and fun. This is meant to be a creative exercise: all of the strict, dull skill-building assignments are now about to merge with your other creative gifts.
